“You Don’t Need Talent to Create a Successful Agency”

What are the things that successful agency leaders tend to have in common?

Join this session to discuss the ‘hallmarks’ and traits of agency leadership success.

“I’ve seen incredibly talented people fail to realise the true potential of their business, and people who DON’T seem to stand out as founders create hugely successful business,” explains Andy Brown, founder of etc Advisory.

Andy will be talking us through the things he’s observed over the years, and what practical changes you can make to achieve agency success.

How Can You Be the Best Virtual Version of Yourself?

Meeting and pitching virtually is now the norm – but have we been approaching it properly?

“You’ve got to work even harder to make an impact for the virtual stage,” says Catherine Allison, director of Master the Art.

Being a few minutes early to a meeting, using simple words and phrases, and setting the expectation that cameras should be turned on are just some of the things you need to bear in mind when pitching and meeting virtually with others.

Catherine will be talking us through how to be the best virtual version of ourselves, and how best to distil our thinking to keep audiences engaged.

How Can You Be a Strong Leader in Strange Times?

A year on and we’re still living in strange times – and there’s still a great deal of uncertainty.

Throw together the pandemic, Brexit, the recent US elections, even climate change, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for overwhelm.

“When the going gets tough, leadership is even more important,” explains Martin Palethorpe, executive coach and founder of Unbounded. “This time in history is a special opportunity to be the leader you really want to be – to help, to support, to innovate, to inspire.”

In this session, Martin will be helping you navigate the seas of constant change and access the strong leader within you.

BE MORE SPY: How to Gather Intelligence and Prepare for Danger

In January 2020, Steve Parks saw news that a mysterious illness in China was now spreading from human to human. He tweeted some sage advice:

“If your organisation’s pandemic preparedness plan has been gathering dust in a drawer, it might be time to dust it off and update it.”

It seems he had a point – and when it comes to running a business, he believes you must have good sources of information and prepare for a wide range of scenarios.

Since 2008, pandemic disease has been at the top of the UK’s National Risk Register. Therefore, we don’t really have an excuse for thinking it came out of nowhere,” says Steve. “It’s all about looking for risks that might come up and how you’re going to manage and mitigate them. How do you then forecast and plan?

Steve will be talking us through how newsrooms and intelligence agencies alike gather and analyse information, and how agencies can learn from that.

How Can You ‘Productise’ Your Agency’s Services?

Like many others, Lee Cross decided it was time to ‘productise’ his agency’s consultancy services.

They packaged everything up, so it was easier to deliver and simpler to buy – but Lee then went one step further to let clients LICENCE their service.

Clients now have a process they can run themselves after a bit of training and handholding, and Lee has a true product he can sell without even getting involved with delivery.

“Our framework is all about empowering our clients to get the right product to the right customer, at the right time,” he explains.

Lee will take us through the ins and outs of turning services into a product, and how more agencies are capable of this than they think – it could revolutionise the work you do and the clients you attract.

DEFINING BEHAVIOURS: Is Your Team Working as it Should?

“At Webcredible we were losing clients left, right and centre. Our work was drying up, and our team wasn’t performing in the way we wanted it to,” explains Andy Ingle, leadership coach and partner at Team Sterka.

They quickly established this was due to the behaviour expected of their team – it had never been fully defined and explained.

Working collaboratively with people in every department, at all levels, they started with their company’s values and worked up to define their behaviours – and it soon became ingrained in the company culture.

We’ll be talking to Andy in more detail about how defining behaviours is just as important as having a set of company values, and how to implement them successfully in your agency.

    EOS ACADEMY: Vision

Have you ever used the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) to improve your agency’s progress?

Perhaps you’ve implemented it in its entirety, or you’ve used some of its tools to improve how you operate.

Either way, if you want to learn more about EOS or how to implement it more effectively, we’ve organised six bi-monthly sessions with Certified EOS Implementer and CEO of Bold Clarity, Julia Langkraehr, to talk through each of the six components.

Our first session will focus specifically on the Vision component – and the eight questions that will help you work out how to achieve your agency’s main goals.

“It’s all about getting 100% crystal clear on where the business is going and how you’re going to get there,” explains Julia.

Getting everyone singing from the same hymn sheet can be tricky but making sure you know what you’re aiming for, with a clear path ahead, will help in the long run.

RETURN TO WORK: What Have You Decided?

What’s happening with your office space?

This is something that Simon Bollon, founder of Boutique, is wondering at the moment.

“There’s a general feeling that most agencies will have a balance between work and home – but what does that balance look like?”

    • “Do we go in Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday – and allow people to have Monday and Friday working at home?
    • “Do we go in on Fridays, because that’s the day we go to the pub?”
    • “We like to book-end our week with full agency meetings. Are they better in person? Or do we continue to do them by Zoom? Going through the same agenda each week on camera is starting to feel a little bit formulaic.”

“There are so many things to consider. And I’m just really interested in what other agencies have decided on.”

Join this session and hear what others are planning.

COVER YOUR BASES: Everything You Didn’t Know About Insurance

When you think of insurance for your agency, you tend to think of the same standard stuff: what if the office burns down or an employee sues you?

But what would you do if a MONKEY stole your camera? Or if you shot an important advert of a famous popstar wearing the WRONG jumper?

Good insurance is what you need when it all goes horribly and unexpectedly wrong,” explains Sam Newman from Hiscox. “It’s not just about breach of contract, policy wordings and technical terms. You need an insurer who understands exactly what it is you do and guarantees they can fix things before your client is even aware something has gone wrong.”

Sam will be sharing some crazy insurance stories – be sure to tune in to make sure you’ve got all your bases covered.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO? “How Can We Make Sales Everybody’s Responsibility?”

Ryan Bromley and the Good Innovation team are wondering how they can get the WHOLE team involved in sales and new business.

Right now it’s all on one person’s shoulders when it should be something EVERYONE can get behind.

What would YOU do? Join us as we get under the skin of this very common question – and hear the advice and experience of the assembled Agency Hackers community.

MAKE ‘EM LAUGH: How to Make Your Social Media Funny

Adam Hunt is on a mission to make social media funny.

“I saw so many brands struggling to say anything worth saying on social media,” says the creative director of White Label Comedy. “Even brands who were represented by big agencies just weren’t able to give their audience what they actually want.”

Along with his team of ‘funny brains’, many of whom are TV and comedy writers, Adam helps brands make their social media campaigns genuinely funny, and therefore far more relatable to a brand’s audience.

We’ll be talking to Adam about how to find the comedy sweet spot to make your social media content genuinely funny – and in turn, more relatable to your audience.

What Is It Really Like to Be A Woman in An Agency?

This is our monthly session to discuss what it’s like to be a woman in an agency, to share experiences and give advice on all manner of topics within the agency sphere and beyond.

Including men in these sessions was overwhelmingly popular with Agency Hackers members to help move these conversations forward – so we’ll be opening this up for EVERYONE from now on.

Our moderator in March will be Sarah Harris, managing director at Deeson. She believes women should stop apologising for themselves.

We’ll be discussing the reasons why women hold themselves to such a high standard, but also sharing tips and thinking about how to celebrate success and failures in a healthier way.

    ⏰ 2pm, Monday 22nd March 2021

PITCH IT, PRESENT IT, WIN IT: Improving Your Pitching Skills

We pitch all the time – it’s how we win a lot of our work.

But if lockdown and virtual pitching has taught us anything, it’s that our pitching skills need fine-tuning.

We’ll be joined by business communication expert, Steve Bustin, to talk over how you can refine your approach in order to pitch it, present it, and win it.

There are three main questions to consider:

    • What is the point of your pitch?

    • What really sets you apart from the rest?

    • Are you ready to stand and deliver?

If you feel like you’re stuck in a rut when it comes to creative and compelling pitches and want to up your game before we’re face-to-face again, this is the session for you.

RIGHT PEOPLE, RIGHT TIME: Why You Need Different People at Each Stage of Your Agency’s Growth

There’s a good chance the agency you run now isn’t exactly the same as the one you started out with.

As you grow, things change beyond recognition – and one important change is the type of people who are part of the agency.

Parry Jones, Deputy CEO of The Specialist Works, says this was the case for them.

“With each gradual development, people had to change and adapt to being in a very different business,” says Parry. “There were some absolute superstars in the early days who were brilliant at getting things off the ground, but the professionalising of the business wasn’t suited for them.”

Join us as we talk through with Parry the importance of having the right people in your business at the right time.

GOING GLOBAL: “How I Built A Content Empire”

Everyone tells you to find a niche, but what happens when you find a gaping hole in the market?

Simon Corbett realised there was no ‘authority’ serving the online dating industry, so he decided it might as well be him, setting up Global Dating Insights. He’s since been able to build an entire content empire in this sector – it’s all at Simon’s feet.

We were the first to do this and do it well, which means we dominate the industry,” he says. “There’s no one else that can do anything like what we do at Global Dating Insights.”

Simon will be talking us through his journey from super-niche to superiority in the field – and how he’s made it the best in the business. We’d recommend swiping right on this one.

KEEP ON MOVING: How To Keep Your Team Motivated

A year of working from home has exhausted everyone.

It’s no surprise that in times like these, we’re even more prone to stress, burnout and overwhelm.

“We need to take care of ourselves and each other – and we all deserve success without sacrifice,” explains Kirsty Hulse, confidence coach and founder of Roar Training.

So how do you keep your teams motivated, focused and engaged when you feel you’re running on empty? Kirsty will be showing us how.

If you’ve been struggling to keep going recently, or have noticed your teams flagging, this is the perfect session for you.
