Scams are everywhere, and they’re getting harder to spot.
From phishing emails to fake invoices, it’s easy to fall for a scam if you’re not paying attention.
Ralph Harrison, sales and marketing director at Cubit Technology – and Agency Hackers’ Recommended Partner for all things IT – wants to show the industry how to spot the warning signs before it’s too late.
Ralph is passionate about helping agencies take a proactive approach to cyber security and prevent falling victim to scammers.
“Trust is good, but not from an IT perspective,” he warns. “If a house gets burgled, the first thing the owner does is install better locks and alarms.”
“Don’t wait to be hacked, prevent it. Make your business a harder target and they’ll focus on the easier ones.”
In this session, we will discuss:
- How scammers use trust against you and the red flags to look for. “Scammers rely on trust. It’s human nature. They literally use that against us.”
- The most common types of scams that target agencies – and how to avoid them. “A fake invoice, a dodgy email, a phishing link that someone – maybe even you – falls for. And suddenly, you’re locked out, your data is compromised, and your biggest client project is ruined with no real explanation.”
- Real-life examples of scams that have caught out even the most experienced professionals. “One office manager got an email from her MD asking to transfer money into an account, even when they addressed her as Katy instead of Kate. They didn’t question it and sent the money.”
- Why it’s important to train your team to spot a scam before it happens. “It’s about habit and awareness. Every time someone receives an email, ask yourself, ‘Does this look dodgy?’ If everyone in your agency is doing this, then you’re more protected.”
In this session, Ralph will take you through practical tips and show you how to turn every member of your team into a ‘human firewall’ against scams.
